Papaver rhoeas
(Corn Poppy)

Roadside in Kingston Springs, TN

A hardy annual (freely and heavily seeds) native to
Europe introduced to the US and found throughout. A
regular sight along Tennessee's interstate system.
Showy soft petaled blooms stand about 24" tall on
pubescent stems with deeply detailed and colorful
stamen and pistol on a darker basal spot. You will
find them blooming in mass along roadsides in May.
