Uniden announces latest in CB Radio design!
Uniden Electronics LTD, makers of such fine CB radio classics as the Lincoln, Washiington, Dwight D, Grant and others, released it's latest radio, labled the "President Obama".
From it's large, easy-to-read "echoprompter" screen, to it's single, left arm multi-function control, it's styling and function are a complete 180degree "change" in design.
The radio also offers multiple power options (except 110AC wall power). It can run on corn, Bovine flatulance, Bull feces, or french fry grease. If power is desired for longer than the 2-minute limit such power sources provide,a one-way, multi-denominational coin slot is provided to buy a little more time.
The "Echoprompter" LCD display tells the user EXACTLY what to say at all times, while using it's receiver filtering capabilities to screen what the user reads or hears.
It is capable of AM (but not before 11AM), FM (for all the "FM types"), and LSB,(or Left Sideband)modes. The Obama functions best out-of-band. The Obama is on shelves now, and production is slated to run until the fall of 2012, or until it's cult-like demand deminishes.

Lightning Sculpture
This is all that is left of an Antron99 ground plane after a direct strike in the summer of 2000... The rest became fiberglass snow! No more antrons for me. Acceptable compromise antennas -- but lightning sniffs them out for some unknown reason!
My QSL card
Yup, that's me with the oldest of my 2 minpins, Bambi. Bambi does not permit me to operate without her.

Coax Switch
I think i have everything i need to start building another remote coax switch.I bought the SMA 6-position switch on Ebay for 20 bucks.
I already accumulated the rest of this stuff;
Project box, DPDT switch ( a SPST is all that is needed tho),9-pin DIN plug (maybee),a 28VDC store-bought power brick (Jemeco #1707091)with all but the bottom of the case removed, 2P6T rotary switch.
I'm considering adding led indicators. But my main concern is RF arc-over (internal lightning caused by RF arching accross the close air gaps in the SMA switch block. I should be fine at HF freqs as long as I keep RF power below 300Watts PEP.
Anything over that, and I'll end up with a light show.

But i now have most of the pieces.

coax-switch episode one
Coax switch assembly has begun... At least, the swicth box portion.
I still have to find a good, cheap, 7-pole connector for it.

Switch box
Can you guess what is wrong with this picture?
Yes, I turned the rotary switch over after this pic was taken,
as the contacts were WAY too close to the fuse contacts.

No worries from ligtning
A quick disconnect panel. All outside cabling goes out here, with the exception of a 300OHM twin lead connection and surveillance camera cables which exit thru a wooden panel elsewhere.
