This is the female bear that is the prime suspect in the mauling of a famous bear photographer and noted authority on bear behavior. Jim Cole. No one saw the incident, but she had a cub that year, 2007, and he inadvertently bumped into her in the Hayen Vally where this bear is seen every year. Larry and I were driving by just as the sun peaked over the hills and caught them fairly close to the road.
