Braemar is a very tourist orientated town offering many activities throughout the year but a great numbers of people just visit Braemar to walk or see the magnificent countryside, which is the home of many animals and plants rarely seen elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
For the more adventurers, the hills surrounding Braemar offer great hill-walking and climbing opportunities. The Dee is a fine salmon river while trout and other species can be caught in local lochs. The surrounding estates offer the opportunity to stalk deer or to shoot grouse. There is a fine 18-hole golf course which is the highest in Britain and in winter Braemar gives great access to both the Glenshee and Lecht ski centres.
